RHIÉ was established in 2011 by Rie Yamagata. The name RHIÉ, derived by Rie's first name and the first initial of her father's name Hiro, was launched as a knitwear capsule. The collection quickly evolved to fully encompass the breadth of a modern wardrobe for everyday life. In designing RHIÉ, Yamagata distills an image of an intelligent, refined woman, with an emphasis on enhancing the innate nature of the materials used. Hallmarks of the collection include subtle details, tailoring and unique fabrics, bold and minimal. RHIÉ is a brand that speaks in a language of precision while having an element of ease.
Rie Yamagata was born in Los Angeles to an artist father and a mother whose family was in the textile industry. She attended Parson School of Design in New York and received a B.A. In womenswear at London's Central Saint Martins before assuming posts in New York and Japan.
RHIÉ is designed and headquartered in the historic West Village in New York. In 2017, the first flagship store was opened at 283 West 11th Street.
